Walter Dix is one of the well known sprinters of American. He usually runs the 100 meter and 200 meter races. In 200 meter race he holds the personal best of 9.53 seconds and is currently the fourth-fastest of all time. He has also among the top sprinters who have completed 100 meter in less than 10 seconds. His personal best for 100 meters is 9.88 seconds.
Dix came to spotlight after his successful streak of performances as an amateur athlete. He created a state record for 100 m at the age of eighteen. At the same age he also participated in the qualification for the US Olympic Team. After joining the Florida State University he broke the record for American junior in the 100 m race. He also went on to win the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Although he was only able to manage the fourth sport in the US Championships of 2005, his success stream continued at the college events. He set a new NCAA record by finishing the 200 m race in 19.69 seconds. He also ended very close to the 100 m record. He was the first person since 1969 to finish the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4 x 100 meters relay race at the Outdoor Championships in 2007. He ended his amateur career in 2008 after becoming one of the most decorated athletes of NCAA.
Dix became a professional athlete somewhere in the middle of 2008 when he got into a huge contract with Nike. He went on to win two bronze medals in the 2008 Beijing games in the 100 and 200 m races.
